First off, there are two official tournaments of esports. The first is the Esport Season One playoffs, where each of the five teams from the regular season to compete for the title. The playoffs will determine who will go on to play in the league season two, and who will finish second. These are the biggest events of all, and there are almost as many teams participating in these as there are teams in the regular season.
The second official esport is called the Pro League Season Two finals. These are split into two different phases, which are the group stages and the playoffs. In the group stage, several weeks will pass before the best two teams will be decided and a final decision will be made. The playoffs are what will happen in the ESL studios in Cologne, Germany, and the United States. The teams playing in these competitions must first win their group before moving on to the other phase, which is where the real fun starts. There are four teams in each group, and the best three will qualify for the playoffs, while the other two will be forced to play against the other teams in their group until one team wins.
All of this brings us to the next big event of ESL, the Cologne Games Week. The week before this event, the players from each team will have been practicing for the Cologne Games Week which takes place in early August. This is also where the best players in the world will be competing against each other, and there are four teams participating in this competition. The main competitors in the tournament are Na’vi, Dignitas, VP and compLexity, who all have an impressive record when it comes to playing against the other top teams in the scene and this should be a pretty good indicator as to who will come out on top at the end of the ESL Esports European League Season 2.
Other minor leagues which are running concurrently with the ESL are Dreamhack Summer Series and the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Series. Dreamhack Summer has just started running and will feature an international tournament where gamers from across the globe will get to compete against one another. Meanwhile, the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Series features both European and American teams. Both sides have qualified for the finals, so these should be a little bit interesting to watch.
